Description
Although considered a prosperous city, Hong Kong has approximately 1,650,000 people living in poverty. Of those who are poor, one in three are elderly. Habitat for Humanity, a global non-profit housing organization, works with volunteers to run ‘Project Home Works’, that seeks to improve home environments and sanitation while building community spirit and hope. The families that partner with us are often elderly or disabled, without a support network, living in public housing estates with government assistance as their only means of income. We coordinate with social services and/or local NGOs to identify the most vulnerable, and Habitat volunteers then work alongside a skilled contractor to create a decent place to live.
