Description
Description: Plastic Free Seas and DB Green are cohosting a community beach cleanup. Gloves and bags will be provided. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, bring a full reusable water bottle, sun protection and bug spray.
Remarks: Experienced staff will be on hand to make this an interesting and educational experience for volunteers. There will be a safety and instruction brief at the start, and a debrief at the end. Note there are no toilets or shops at the beach.
Volunteers are expected to refrain from bringing single-use items to the beach, such as disposable plastic bottles, rain coats, etc.
Directions: Take the 1.30 ferry (or earlier) from Central Ferry Pier #3, or DB03R bus from Sunny Bay station. Walk 5 min walk from the ferry pier / bus terminal to the meeting point at the entrance to Nim Shue Wan. You can find a map and directions here to get to the meeting point at Nim Shue Wan.
Use the toilet on the ferry or at the plaza before coming to the meeting point as there are NO toilet facilities at the beach.
Upon arrival, let the staff know that you are with HandsOn HK. The group will depart at 2.10pm for the beach which is a further easy 10 min walk away. You can find a map to the meeting point here. If you are late, follow the path towards Mui Wo and you will get to Cheung Sha Lan.
Please be reminded that all participants must be signed up for this event, including adults and children. Volunteers should not bring along a friend or family member who has not signed up.
Volunteers who would like to register for their children and youth (age 6-12), please have them sign up here. Children under 13 years must be accompanied by an adult for this program.
If you successfully register minimum 10 days before the event and plan to travel by ferry from Central Ferry Pier #3 to DB, your return trip will be free of charge if arrangements are made ahead of time. The free ferry ride must be used on the same day as the beach cleanup. Volunteers are not eligible for the free ferry tickets when you claim the vacancy spot from the waiting list less than 10 days before the event.
Volunteers will receive a detailed service reminder email one day before the event, along with a letter for the free ferry ticket.
Please note this activity is only open to individuals. Companies should contact Plastic Free Seas directly to find out about their corporate programs.
